Ukrainian President Proposes Video Address at ASEAN Summit

PHNOM PENH: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has requested to make a video address during the ASEAN Summit to clarify Ukraine's intention to become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, 1 November 2022, during the telephone meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President proposed giving a video address during the upcoming ASEAN Summit hosted by Cambodia.

During the call, President Zelenskyy also noted with satisfaction and gratitude the three ASEAN statements made in support of Ukraine, as well as Cambodia's efforts to meet Ukraine's request to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia will continue to work with other ASEAN member countries to address Ukraine's intention to join as an ASEAN's sectoral dialogue partner.
